Release 10.1A: OpenEdge Application Server:
Administration

Deploying a Web service

You can use the Progress Explorer or the WSAMAN utility’s deploy function to deploy a Web service. This section describes deploying a Web service with the Progress Explorer. For more information on using WSAMAN to deploy a Web service, see Chapter 8 "Using the WSA Management Utility (WSAMAN)" and Appendix B "Command and Utility Reference."

To deploy a Web service using the Progress Explorer:

  1. In the Web Services Adapter (WSA) folder, expand the WSA instance where you want to deploy the Web service. The Web Services folder appears under the expanded WSA instance. Right-click the Web Services folder. A shortcut menu appears. Choose Deploy A New Web Service, as shown:
  2. You can also Select the Web Services folder; click the Deploy a New Web Service button or choose Action Deploy A New Web Service.

The Deploy a New Web Service dialog box appears, as shown:

Enter the path name of the WSM file for the Web service that you want to deploy. You can also use the Browse button to select and enter the filename from the appropriate directory. Choose the Continue button to continue the deployment. This displays the Deploy: Deployment Information dialog box, as shown:

The initial values in the dialog box are set from existing information in the WSM file, and you can change them as necessary.

  3. Make any necessary changes to the values in the Deploy: Deployment Information dialog box. The fields you can change are listed in Table 6–2.
  4. Table 6–2: Deployment Information That Can Be Changed
    Field
    Description
    Name
A user-friendly name used to uniquely identify the Web service to the WSA instance where the Web service is deployed.
    Web Service Namespace
A namespace used to uniquely identify the Web service to the WSA instance where the Web service is deployed.
    SOAP Action
A string that the client application is required to place in the SOAPAction HTTP header when accessing a Web service at the WSA instance. The SOAPAction HTTP header is required for all HTTP messages that carry SOAP messages and is used by intervening security servers (such as firewalls) to determine if each HTTP message is allowed to pass through to its destination. The default is a blank string, but can be any string required by the intervening security servers on the network.
    Append to SOAP Action
Indicates whether to append the object name to the SOAP Action value.
    WSDL Style/Use
Specifies the SOAP format to use when sending or receiving SOAP messages for this Web service. The value that you choose depends entirely on what your anticipated Web service clients can support.

To deploy the Web service with these settings, choose OK. An information box appears verifying that the deployment has completed.

Note: At this point, the Web service is deployed and disabled.
